Properties for Indian ragas[edit]

Of the properties proposed below, it is most likely the case that only "ascending scale" and "descending scale" will be useful for other musical traditions.

Motivation[edit]

These properties serve as a starting point to describe ragas, both Hindustani (all four properties) and Carnatic (the first two, primarily). While a number of other properties may be proposed later to augment the description of these ragas (e.g. for the pakad (Q7125406), Chalan (Q56277847)s, Sthayi (Q7616089)s, and the like), I would like to augment the current (largely empty) items for ragas with this information first. The reference I have given provides such information for at most 1438 different ragas, though I have also identified other sources (such as the Raganidhi of B. Subba Rao) that may serve to expand on this information. Mahir256 (talk) 23:19, 16 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
