Motivation

[edit]

This would be a new Wikidata property for authority control for cultural heritage (Q18618628). The en:New Mexico State Register of Cultural Properties began in 1969 and in the 50 years since has registered 2050 historic buildings, sites, districts and monuments in the state. Throughout that period, the en:New Mexico Historic Preservation Division of the en:New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs has maintained a consistent register number as its identifier for each listed entity. 838 of these NMSRCP sites (41%) do not have a NRHP reference number (P649). As with IDs for other sub-national registers, such as the California Office of Historic Preservation ID (P6012), there is value to Wikidata and other Wikimedia projects for this identifier to be stored as a property of relevant items. Currently, New Mexico does not offer a searchable online database to facilitate easy URL linking from Wikidata, but the value of this identifier is not solely dependent on such a database. If one were to be created in future, the property could easily be edited to automatically generate links.Rupert Clayton (talk) 04:11, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
