Motivation
[edit]The main Canmore database has records for over 320,000 archaeological sites, monuments, and buildings in Scotland, including a significant number of wrecks and other maritime sites off the coasts of the country. The maritime craft thesaurus is the controlled vocabulary used to summarise and classify the vessels associated with these sites. Matching to it would help us review the completeness and classification of our own items in this field, help to interpret the Canmore records for wikidata, and enable cross-walks between types used in other schemes to and from the Canmore types.
