Motivation

Wikidata currently has items for over 800 Pokémon, where a majority of them don't have any Wikipedia articles. Bulbapedia would be able to serve as an external identifier for these items, as well as provide a link where extensive information can be found about the item. In addition to the 800+ Pokémon Wikidata has hundreds of other items relating to Pokémon characters, games, movies and more that would benefit from the identifier. Bulbapedia has existed since 2005, and is already used as an external link many times across various Wikipedias. --Lewis Hulbert (talk) 20:33, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion
@Airon90: We already have Banglapedia ID (English) (P4255), WikiSkripta article ID (P3471) and Free Software Directory entry (P2537). The proposal for P3471 also mentions a few others. --Lewis Hulbert (talk) 13:45, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Oppose 1) Biased towards English language, the entry ash Ketchum offers in fact interwikis to fr, de, it, pl, ..., ... articles 2) No reason stated why these ID's would be somehow stable (they are as stable as a title in Wikipedia: that's not an ID). I guess creating "external ID's properties" for titles of articles in every wikia in every language is not a good approach for Wikidata. strakhov (talk) 10:31, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Strakhov: 1) the English bias was something I noticed when making this proposal. The interwiki links are not Bulbapedia in different languages, but other affiliated Pokémon wikis. I hadn't looked into the websites enough to include them in this proposal, but was going to consider another depending on the outcome of this one. 2) Once something in Pokémon gets an official English name, the page is unlikely to later be moved to another title, although there is still the chance. This is also, surely, an issue shared with the problem with the other wiki properties mentioned earlier in the discussion. If this is really a problem, an alternative is using the page IDs that Mediawiki provides.
I agree that creating a property for every single wiki would most likely be an undesirable thing, but Wikidata has thousands of items related to Pokémon with no Wikipedia articles and no other external identifiers. --Lewis Hulbert (talk) 13:18, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
