Illustrations

[edit]

I have found some issues with your recent edits:

  1. Wikidata is not a Wikipedia — here an illustration have to precisely describe the item. Reaction mechanism diagram is an illustration for an item about the reaction, not about the class of compounds [1]. Chemical structure diagram is an illustration for an item describing specific compound, not for an item describing a class of compounds [2] [3]. This was incorrect, because this illustration depicts only a subclass of compounds described in this item, it'd be correct in carboxylate ester (Q355518) which already has an illustration. You should remember that many items should not have an illustration in Wikidata even though Wikipedia articles contain them.
  2. related image (P6802) is used only if there is no proper illustration added using image (P18) (or other more specific properties). Adding statements using related image (P6802) while there is already a statement with image (P18) is incorrect.
  3. I strongly advise against using FIST for adding chemical illustrations. Items describing chemical compounds rarely use image (P18), usually only chemical structure (P117) and/or image of molecular model or crystal lattice model (P8224) which cannot be added using FIST. This caused major problems in the recent past where thousands of edits made using FIST had to be reverted or manually corrected. Wostr (talk) 18:57, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

batch creation of new items

[edit]

Hi Siloepic,

I noticed you are creating new items for enwiki in bulk, but don't add any statements. Do you have some plan to this later? Items without any statements aren't that useful to Wikidata. We do have a bot that creates new items based on a set of criteria and attempts to add statements.

If you plan to do bulk creations for enwiki, please make a bot request as well.--- Jura 22:12, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

comment: Siloepic is also adding existing enwikiquote articles to existing WD entries, I think? Ottawahitech (talk) 21:07, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I was just about to write the same thing. We regularly add new items for national elections with details on country, office, point in time etc. When someone adds an almost empty item (e.g. 2022 Northern Cypriot parliamentary election (Q110263929)) that just leads to confusion and duplicates. Please either add more statements or avoid creating such items in the future. Popperipopp (talk) 10:23, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thought that it would be useful to point you to the information about differentiation of works and editions. Typically Wikisource's reproductions relate to version, edition or translation (Q3331189) of works, whereas WP holds the article about the work. We have means to relate works <-> editions, and that is explained on that link.  — billinghurst sDrewth 01:14, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
