N vs E coordinaten[edit]

Never replace information from a reliable source with information from a Wikipedia.[edit]

Your edit to Washington Monument replaced information from the National Geodetic Survey (the gold standard for geographical coordinates in the United States) with information you claim was imported from the English Wikipedia. Wikipedias, in any language, are unreliable sources and should never be used to replace information from a reliable source. Jc3s5h (talk) 02:35, 10 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinates precision[edit]

Hi Abductive. It is not the number of decimals that determine the precision of coordinates; it is the interval. In other words, the higher the value, the lower the coordinates precision. So in case of Carp Hills, my precision of 0.016666666666667 is a much lower precision than your value of 0.00027777777777778. Because my precision only produces coordinates with degrees and minutes (45°23'N, 76°4'W) - more than sufficient for a large object - whereas in your case, the coordinates are 45°22'50"N, 76°4'7"W - clearly much more precise and needless too. See also WP:OPCOORD. This applies also to a lot of your edits where you change the coordinates of large geographic features to needless precision.

Furthermore, I really don't see how my coordinates value "misses the topic" (???). My value is clearly near the geographic center of the hills. Is there something specific at your coordinates? Are your coordinates sourced somewhere? If not, there is no reason to change it and I will revert. Regards, --P199 (talk) 14:05, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a source for your coordinates? Abductive (talk) 23:34, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well, you didn't address any of my points or answered my questions. Looks like I am right to revert. Regards, --P199 (talk) 12:55, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If you feel that your invented value is closer to the center (which it isn't) then go ahead. Abductive (talk) 16:38, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Property proposal for RHS plant ID[edit]

Hi, I have added a proposal based on your conversation here. Pauljmackay (talk) 09:27, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I have added a comment, is there anything else that needs to be done before transcluding it? Abductive (talk) 17:53, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
TBH I tried transcluding and it didnt allow me to save, not sure why. Pauljmackay (talk) 07:53, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I seem to have done it. Abductive (talk) 18:00, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Note[edit]

Thank you for your work in maintaining Wikidata. I have a small suggestion to improve your future work. If you notice that two items are duplicates, please merge them instead of blanking one of them as you did with the item Q41507742. External sites use Wikidata identifiers, so it is important that we preserve the chain of references. We do this by making one item a redirect for the other. In particular, item ids are intended to be a permanent identifier, so we never reuse them for another concept. See Help:Merge for more information on how to merge items, and consider installing the Merge Gadget. Thanks!  Bovlb (talk) 17:08, 2 February 2022 (UTC) --Bovlb (talk) 17:08, 2 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, that one. It didn't have any data content, just an interwikilink. So I figured it was not a real dataobject. Abductive (talk) 17:31, 2 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

geographic precision[edit]

Please note that a precision of 1 arc second (particularly for buildings etc.) will often throw off the display in the commons infobox etc. by way too much. It's better to have "too precise" coords than too unprecise.--Hjart (talk) 07:11, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Removing coordinates[edit]

Could you please provide an example? Thanks. --Superyetkin (talk) 12:28, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Items having more than one coordinate value conflict with the working mechanism of the related infobox on trwiki. This template retrieves the geographical data directly from Wikidata. Regards. --Superyetkin (talk) 12:51, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Kuiper Airborne Observatory[edit]

Hi there, I saw you updated the coordinates for Kuiper Airborne Observatory (Q1501126). Is this something you verified yourself? Or found evidence for elsewhere? I ask because the most recent satellite images place it at 37°24'58.1"N 122°03'17.1"W. Just curious! Thanks. Huntster (t @ c) 14:56, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I used the coordinates from enWikipedia, which I guess indicated a previous parking spot. Abductive (talk) 18:34, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
