This tool is failing to transfer the greater than and less than signs when they appear in DOI. If you apply this template in Wikipedia, you get a bad DOI and it fails. This seems an important issue to resolve. Trilotat (talk) 23:10, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@User:Mike Peel: inception (P571) is explicitly constrained not to be used on Wikimedia template (Q11266439) items. Which is quite reasonable, IMHO, as it’s obviously quite debatable what should that express. I mean, what is meant by “the same code”? That French template is exactly what this item has been from the start (and the fr sitelink has exactly the same relevance like the en one, doesn’t it?). I think Wikimedia-specific items mostly define only very basic claims plus the interwiki, they don’t usually represent “encyclopedic knowledge” about the Wikimedia-specific pages themselves, I’d say. --Mormegil (talk) 20:56, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Mormegil: Thanks for the background. I was approaching this from when the first version of the code was written, but I don't understand the merge by @Pigsonthewing: with this edit. Probably this item needs to be split? I don't understand the constraint requirement, though, since templates have an inception date. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 21:01, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Why would you think so? fr:Modèle:Bibliographie works the same way as en:Template:Cite Q. Cf. e.g. fr and en. --Mormegil (talk) 11:57, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
