Beenschroeven/Leg irons[edit]

So, about the leg irons: Q64572518 is the only item about it on Wikidata, and it is an artwork. It says "Shackles or leg irons". As you can see in File:Beinschrauben - Mittelalterliches Kriminalmuseum Rothenburg ob der Tauber.JPG there was a difference between (ankle) shackles and beenschroeven. They cover the whole of the calve and the shins, and have nasty pointers.

Quite similar was a metal, spiked collar (we do not have a image yet of I think) like this one. Ciell (talk) 17:36, 10 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Witch hunter[edit]

There were many witch-hunters active, and my books name several names. It seems it was a profession, like work-for hire. Should w:en:Witch hunter (Witch hunter (Q8027868)). Shall I create a new item for it? Or can I just point to the disambiguation page? Ciell (talk) 18:59, 24 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kimpa Vita[edit]

Advice on Modelling Scottish Witch Hunters Involvement[edit]

Hi!

I'm currently working on a data visualisation internship focused on visualising the rich historical data on the Survey of Scottish Witchcraft. We have previously created the Map of Accused Witches website, using data from the Survey imported onto Wikidata. To continue this work I have been trying to import the cases on the database onto Wikidata as well, and have recently submitted a pending Case ID Property Proposal to aid this work.

I've been looking at the different types of involvement people related to the cases could have and how to model them on Wikidata. The unique values on the involvement page are listed below:

Assailant

Assessor (judge's assistant)

Bailie

Cautioner

Chancellor

Cited authority

Clerk

Commissioner

Complainer

Confession Witness

Defence

Defence advocate

Elder

Execution attendant

Expert Witness

Investigator

Jailor

Judge

Minister

Notar

Officer

Procurator

Prosecutor

Rescuer

Sheriff

Sheriff-depute

Witchcraft acquired from

Witch-pricker

I was wondering if anyone has done anything related to this or had any advice. I wanted to find some workable consensus/consistency of describing 16th century witch trial/case data and the people involved. I've already had some ideas of how I could put these relationships onto Wikidata, but for a lot of them it seems I'm trying to fit modern day job descriptions to 17th/16th century Scottish occupations. Would it be best to create new items for the specific definitions? For example the item commissioner - Wikidata doesn't seem to fit the Scottish 17th century definition of what a commissioner of a witch hunt is. Any help greatly appreciated!

Have you advanced on this mapping and if yes would you care to update this page Wikidata:WikiProject Witches/Properties? Would love having a visio one of these days as we are restarting the project in Switzerland Natacha LSP (talk) 12:27, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Map with gender[edit]

I did a version of the first map on the Le Sans Pages blog but with colors for gender if you are interested. You find it at User:Ainali/WitchMapQuery. Ainali (talk) 11:03, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much !Natacha LSP (talk) Natacha LSP (talk) 13:27, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Natacha LSP: Here is also a mapframe version:
Map
Witches
Hi @Ainali :, again thank you for your involvement ! I wonder if we could break this map by region / country ? I would like to make one covering the swiss and nearby Alps and Jura but I don't know how to do it. We are starting an extensive mapping of swiss witches with Wikimedia CH @Flor_WMCH, Medea7: and to be able to import the maps on wikipedia we need to spilt the maps in regions.

Warm regards, Natacha LSP (talk) 12:32, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Ainali : there is a problem in this map : it does not show for Geneva : Michée Chauderon, Jeanne Brolliet and a few others that are present on the map used on this page Natacha LSP (talk) 12:39, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean split by country. One map each, or some splitting within the map? Ainali (talk) 22:17, 1 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

minimum for translations?[edit]

I just came across this super basic article on SH Wikipedia with only one reference Q115806270 and it made me wonder what is the minimum quality of article to make it worth translating to others language Wikipedias? --Zblace (talk) 08:12, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@ZblaceThis is a question to be adressed on local wikipedias and does not concern wikidata, although I would suggest having solid academic sourcing. Natacha LSP (talk) 12:23, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Zblace could you please finish this element ? It lacks the basic declarations and one citation :). Natacha LSP (talk) 12:25, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Natacha LSP reference source is unreliable, so I am reluctant to do it. Zblace (talk) 07:18, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
