clinically significant interaction between two pharmacologically active substances (i.e., drugs and/or active metabolites) where concomitant intake can lead to altered effectiveness or adverse drug events.
Description | a clinically significant interaction between two pharmacologically active substances (i.e., drugs and/or active metabolites) where one substance (so-called 'precipitant') alters the pharmacokinetics or pharmacodynamics of another substance (so-called, 'object'). The property should be used in this direction: <object> <drug action altered by> <precipitant> | |||||||||

Every item with significant drug interaction (P769) statement and instance of (P31)type of chemical entity (Q113145171) that has no has use (P366)medication (Q12140). In combination with other constraints it would allow in the future to properly move pharmacology-related statements from items about groups of isomers to items about specific isomer or to items about mixtures of isomers. Refined property name and description
[edit]I have initiated the inclusion of this property and the project for including the drug safety data into Wikidata through this property. While loading essential drug interaction data into Wikidata, we found that the original name of the property ('drug action altered by') needed to be refined to easily accomodate the drug interaction data we needed to import. The reason for this was that some of the significant drug interactions, especially the interactions between drugs that cause QT interval prolongation, could not be captured effectively with the older version of this property (in this case, the drugs do not necessarily alter the action of each other, but lead a to an increased risk of an adverse effect). I updated the title and description of the property in English, and the title of the property in German so that the property better matches the data we want to represent. This change broadens (rather than narrows) the semantics of the property, so all previous statements made with this property remain valid. The new semantics also mean that the property should be symmetric, as a distinction between object and precipitant drug can now longer be made in all cases.
The title of this property in other languages besides English and German needs to be updated. --Matthiassamwald (talk) 10:53, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
