The Names Archive[edit]

  • Source https://nimiarkisto.fi/
  • Status: The Names Archive does not have it's own Wikidata properties yet. There will be two or three item types: Places, (names) and field notes. Only the items for the field notes exist currently. Names would be natural to create as lexemes, as the Names Archive is also a Wikibase. The Names Archive could be linked to Wikidata the other way round as well, with referrals to places stored in Wikidata. This will require that place-items are first created to the Names Archive.

National Land Survey place type ontology[edit]

The National Land Survey has created a place type ontology that has been made into linked data by SeCo. This could be imported.

Tasks[edit]

List of all lakes in Finland. (It will be useful to make filtered lists)

  • Check that labels exist in Finnish, Swedish, English, and Northern, Inari and Skolt Saami.
    • We should compare the values against National Land Survey's place name data, when we find a good way how.
  • Add municipalities. Remove references to higher level entities (region, country) when more precise ones (municipalities) exist.
  • Write descriptions in all these languages. Description should include at least the municipalities where the lake is situated.

Lake inflows and outflows.

  • Always add the source of information. Also find sources for unsourced statements.
  • Make a mass import of Järviwiki data in collaboration with SYKE.
