The Archives and Linked Data Interest Group is composed of archivists, archives data specialists, and programmers/data experts exploring pragmatic approaches to publishing linked data.

Aim and Scope[edit]

The purpose of this WikiProject is to provide a place to draft and share resources and recommendations for using Wikidata as a platform to publish or enrich archival data.

Background[edit]

The group includes committers to the ArchivesSpace (Q93439967) software project and has previously extended Schema.org for archival organizations and materials. Based on international archival content standards, the group has developed a draft recommendation for creating and enhancing wikidata records about archival repositories, archival collections, and the people and organizations who created these collections.

Tools[edit]

The pages below link to more thorough documentation on the Tools page.

  • Use QuickStatements to perform batch creation and editing of records.
  • Use Cradle forms to quickly create individual records
  • Configure your Gadgets for easier addition of references, querying, and more.

Still needed: Documentation on using OpenRefine.

Resources[edit]

The following pages are recommendations created by the group for representing people, corporate bodies (organizations, etc.), archival items/collections, and repositories in Wikidata. These recommendations were developed from 2018-2020. The recommendations are grounded in archival content standards: Describing Archives: A Content Standard (Q5263780), ISAD(G) (Q1654544), International Standard Archival Authority Record (Q494240), and International Standard for Describing Institutions with Archival Holdings (Q3146525).
