AliciaFagervingWMSE-bot (talk • contribs • new items • new lexemes • SUL • Block log • User rights log • User rights • xtools)
Operator: Alicia Fagerving (WMSE) (talk • contribs • logs)
Task/s: The function of the bot is to import data about immovable cultural heritage to Wikidata as part of Wikimedia Sverige's Connected Open Heritage Project.
This request is for data about cultural heritage monuments in Kenya from the Wiki Loves Monuments Database (originally from the English Wikipedia).
Code: The bot uses Python and the Pywikibot framework. The code is up on Github: Framework, Specific table processing script
Function details:
The bot processes data from the Wiki Loves Monuments Database, in this case ke, about 200 items. They will all make use of Wiki Loves Monuments ID (P2186) (with the prefix KE) as an identifier.
Below you can see:
- The mappings: Wikidata:WikiProject WLM/Mapping tables/ke_(en)
- An example of how the data is translated into Wikidata properties: Wikidata:WikiProject WLM/Mapping tables/ke_(en)/preview

- I appreciate that you're making clear each task you will be doing with this bot, but is it really necessary to ask separately for each country that you are working with? I think we could give blanket approval for global work in this area based on the countries you've proposed so far, without the need for more requests. Or is there another reason for all the requests? Anyway, it all looks good to me! ArthurPSmith (talk) 20:31, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- @ArthurPSmith: My thinking behind the separate requests is that it can give an opportunity to comment on a particular set of mappings/assumptions which are particular to a dataset without it blocking the other ones. This is also why we've tried to ping in the people who were involved in the different processes for each country. That said I'm not opposed to a blanket approval for Connected Open Heritage imports from the WLM database for AliciaFagervingWMSE-bot and AndreCostaWMSE-bot since that would obviously also reduce some of our administrative overhead. Since we are two people looking at the code and results for each country there is already some vetting going on before the bot requests go up. /André Costa (WMSE) (talk) 08:49, 2 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
