- Motivation
The number and layout of a locomotive's wheels is a defining characteristic, especially for a steam locomotive (Q171043). So much so, that I have been tagging them as subclass of (P279); but on reflection I think it would be better if it were a separate defined property. — Iain Bell (talk) 10:51, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
- Discussion
- Comment My first thought is that as the same wheel arrangement can be represented in different schemes, e.g. 4-6-2 (Q1043481) is all of "4-6-2", "2C1", "3/6" and "Pacific" (and probably others), so I think it would be useful to have some sort of property or qualifier (most probably on the wheel arrangement items) to note the representation in each scheme, and each wheel arrangement item should I think also have claims for the number of wheels of each type, e.g. . Whether we need a specific property as proposed or continue to use subclass of is something I need to think more about. Thryduulf (talk: local | en.wp | en.wikt) 11:53, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
- Support and mark as ready. The specific property seems to have gained favour and I can't see a reason to disagree with that. Thryduulf (talk) 02:05, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- I actually noticed the use of subclass of (P279) and switched it to has characteristic (P1552), which I think fits better. --Izno (talk) 13:35, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- Support Very useful property for locomotives that is widely used to describe (especially historic) locomotives. --Srittau (talk) 23:04, 11 June 2016 (UTC)
