Motivation[edit]
Matrix is used as a successor to IRC in some software projects (see: Welcome to Matrix, KDE!, Welcoming Mozilla to Matrix!). The purpose of this property is the same as IRC channel URL (P1613). --Momiji-Penguin (talk) 05:20, 26 October 2020 (UTC)

Comment FYI, there is now a new proposal, Wikidata:Property proposal/Matrix room (2) (which started under a different name and I missed that this proposal already exists, but in any case I think it explains why IM channel URL (P8009) is not a good approach). --Tgr (talk) 18:38, 25 December 2022 (UTC)
