rank insignia
[edit]Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Organization
Description | image of the insigna for a rank (such as a military rank) |
---|---|
Data type | Commons media file |
Example 1 | general (Q5531647) → |
Example 2 | senior airman (Q7450728) → |
Example 3 | captain (Q5036514) → |
Planned use | Add it to military ranks. |
Motivation
[edit]Some items for military ranks currently use P18 (image), but I don't think this is appropriate. The image should be for an actual picture, while a rank insigna property is more accurate, on the same model that for medals we have P2425 (service ribbon) while P18 (image) is for an actual image of the medal. The previous proposal (see Wikidata:Property proposal/rank insignia) was suggesting to use this property on items representing persons and was very unclear. This is not what is proposed here. I propose it to be used on the items for the actual ranks. Amqui (talk) 00:54, 4 September 2020 (UTC)

- Weak support Somehow there must be constraints so people does not use this property on objects like general (Q83460). Personally I am not so found of the nation specific rank objects, but a property like this could actually make them useful. /ℇsquilo 09:46, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- Can we generalize this to be applicable to a wider space of insignia? ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 12:18, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- Support if the property would be applied to any insignia, not just ranks. --Tinker Bell ★ ♥ 20:30, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
