Motivation[edit]

nanopublication (Q57814310) View profile on Scholias are are small RDF-based publications, quite similar to Wikidata Statements with references and history. Because of their rich semantics, they are easy to work with. Nanopublications contain facts, and as such I am looking at being able to cite them. I do not wish nanopublications to be items in Wikidata, but I do like them to be citable. A simple model could have them as values of reference URL (P854) but that does not have the semantics that the resulting page is a nanopublication. This could be solved by having a new property. It could be a subclass of reference URL (P854). The identifier is both an external identifier and URL (there is no 'identifier' part or URL pattern), but I opt for the last. This property is intended to be used in references (like reference URL (P854)), not in statements (like DOIs).

The added semantics of this property makes querying for nanopublications as reference a lot easier, because there is no URL pattern and the filtering in this Scholia patch is unbound: https://github.com/WDscholia/scholia/pull/2432/files
