Motivation[edit]
We are creating items for University of Washington organizations, schools, programs, etc. and they often have a LinkedIn group ID rather than a company ID. We want to be able to link from Wikidata to their LinkedIn group. UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 21:38, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
Discussion[edit]
- Comment I am a bit hesitant since the link does not lead to a publicly available page. --Hannes Röst (talk) 17:23, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
- Support I think it's useful. But it's true that you have to be signed in (to LinkedIn) to see the page. --Deansfa (talk) 02:16, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose as it's not really an identifier for linked open data. --- Jura 12:40, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose because not accessible without a LinkedIn account. Simon Cobb (User:Sic19 ; talk page) 19:02, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose same opinion as Jura1 and Sic19 —Eihel (talk) 06:01, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- Support I hear the linked open data argument. This doesn't point to perfectly open data, but neither do personal LinkedIn account ID's, and there is a property for LinkedIn personal profile ID that is widely used. It is certainly preferable for identifiers to lead to linked open data, but when they don't, I would argue that it's still useful for them to be included in an identifier hub like Wikidata for identity management purposes. --Crystal Clements, University of Washington Libraries (talk) 02:50, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
- Personal profiles are generally accessible. It's clear that Wikidata could be used as free storage and host for non public internal data, but I don't think that's its purpose. --- Jura 09:29, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
- Not done There is no obvious consensus to promote creation. (`・ω・´) (talk) 09:50, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
