Motivation[edit]
Although the site is still in open beta, Glitchwave has a good amount of video games and ratings and it can be useful to cross-reference with other game databases and sources.
Notes: Glitchwave games are added in a similar manner to the Discogs master x release logic: there is the main/generic entry, which would be represented by this ID, and the specific game releases, e.g. the 1988 original Super Mario Bros. 3 NES release vs. the 2007 Wii downloadable version. According to the developers, in the future, Rate Your Music releases will function in a similar way (when the transition to Sonemic is completed.--Guttitto (talk) 21:47, 17 January 2023 (UTC)

- Comment Thanks for suggesting these. The main reason I had not done so earlier is that Glithwave explicitly has numeric IDs (eg Minecraft (Q49740) → 783), and that not being to use these is unfortunate :-/ Jean-Fred (talk) 16:37, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Jean-Frédéric That's true, both RYM and Glitchwave have numeric shortcuts for their relevant database items. Although these numbers don't appear in URLs, 1. it's possible to go to certain item types on RYM by pasting the shortcut into the search engine, e.g. pasting

and pressing enter takes you to Superfuzz Bigmuff Plus Early Singles, and 2. the developers plan to add a Sonemic API in the future that might help with this. The problem is that it's currently a team of only 2 developers so things take a while to actually be implemented. - In the meantime, it might be possible to have two separate properties for URL IDs and numeric shortcut IDs if we want, similar to Genius artist ID (P2373) vs. Genius artist numeric ID (P6351), or YouTube channel ID (P2397) vs. YouTube handle (P11245). I don't know if it'd possible and I don't have the expertise to "program" these in an advanced way but I thought about making the ID with URL formatter the primary one and make the numeric one a qualifier that would just be redirected to the URL of the primary property. Since that can be seen a bit as an unnecessary workaround we might as well just wait until they provide us with an API and stick only with these simpler IDs for now. - Support I agree with Jean-Fred regarding the lack of numeric IDs, but I don't think that has really blocked identifiers in the past, so shrug. Nicereddy (talk) 01:11, 20 January 2023 (UTC)
- As an aside, does Glitchwave have any links to external sources (Steam, IGDB, etc)? And was the database pre-populated from a specific source? Nicereddy (talk) 01:15, 20 January 2023 (UTC)
- They do have media links like RYM, for instance Minecraft should have 2 trailers and 2 Bandcamp releases attached to it but they don't seem to be showing up properly on the game page right now so you can see them here. About sources, the ones that were allowed or not allowed were previously listed on this thread, but according to this recent one, sourcing will become less restrictive. Either way, sources/meta-comments are required for all submissions, the general RYM sourcing principles also apply to Glitchwave. Guttitto (talk) 02:50, 20 January 2023 (UTC)
- To clarify, my point is not about the lack of numeric IDs (that’s indeed not a requirement), but that there /are/ numeric IDs, which are not even hidden into the depths of the HTML source code but prominently displayed (compare to say the MobyGames numeric ID, which exists but only in the API ; or the IGDB ID which for a long time was only visible in source code): these are clearly the persistent ones and beg to be used, only the formatter URL is missing. But the lack of formatter URL has also never blocked identifiers in the past either so… :) Jean-Fred (talk) 09:16, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

- As far as I remember, the site administration has explicitly stated (in past year) that they do not make these numeric IDs external, to prevent parsing spam, both for RYM and Glitchwave. (They have a pretty awful firewall system that blocks by IP instantly even with measured page scanning and they remove bans manually within a week or so.) Solidest (talk) 00:42, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for clarifying. If these IDs are not externally resolvable by design, then that puts this discussion to rest :) Jean-Fred (talk) 14:41, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
