VG-lista song ID[edit]

Is this identifier about songs, tracks or music compositions? There seems to be no consistency in the property exaples you choose. Trade (talk) 17:55, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, @Trade! They are all (in the general term) tracks, I suppose! It's an identifier for singles/songs/tracks listed in the music chart/hit list VG-lista, which for this specific case generally contains singles, streamed songs, and other musical compositions. Hope this cleared it up for you! Perhaps Wikidata property related to record charts (Q66118402) could be a useful property for this and the similar album-related identifier. I'm unsure if you are aware but items about singles/songs/tracks are supposed to be split into three separate items. The single "Sk8er Boi" includes multiple songs but if you look at the page it's pretty clear that VG-lista are referring to only the title track and not the single release itself.--Trade (talk) 18:55, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Trade: I wasn't aware of that, no! It is possible that older entries of the list might include singles, however, so it might be a bit case-by-case. The list started in 1958 focused on "the 10 most sold singles" (Ti på topp), but has evolved during the years, which now also includes streamed works. The website should? also include other lists within the same umbrella hit list. Would it be preferred that the database listings are connected to the songs themselves? EdoAug (talk) 19:07, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
On Wikidata the term songs/compositions refers to all versions of a song including remixes, instrumentals and covers by other performers.
It is preferred that the database listings are connected to the tracks by the original performer. Trade (talk) 19:12, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Trade: I see.. The linked Wikipedia articles seem to mainly describe the song as performed by the original artist. The issue is still a little unclear to me. How is this handled by other hit lists? EdoAug (talk) 19:25, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
All the other hitlist identifiers are about the artist. This is the only one about songs Trade (talk) 19:33, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
