It seems that the follow-up on this goes in circles (e.g. the part where someone tries to work on Red October and books ..) and has become a magnet for users who don't actually contribute to Wikidata in the field if at all. As the status quo seems to work out for contributors, I suggest to close this as stale.

Status quo is to support data inconsistency and duplication? I hoped you would advocate some real solution...

I'm aware that books are problematic, but I don't really want to start sort it out for its WikiProject. Users there seem happy with their approach and might eventually clean up the items. This seems independent from the discussion and the existence of the properties.

If people are trying to find the equivalent property for the subtitleLanguage scheme, they can't map that directly, but really why should they? This can be seen as an inconsistency, but I don't think it actually is.
