The OBIN identifier on the page was in fact correct. This is easy to verify if one has ODNB access: So I assume you don't

The article linked to is for Edward Rudge, senior. But this article has a second identifier associated to it, for Edward John Rudge, the son. The link from the item is correct, because it goes to the anchor in the text for Edward John Rudge.

I.e. Edward Rudge = 101024250, Edward John Rudge = 101024251.

@Charles Matthews: ok I indeed to have OBIN access, but if that the id redirects to an entry about someone else, that seems potentially like a real usability issue for Wikidata (a bit like sitelinks to redirects that are supposedly disabled in Wikidata)

Not a simple redirect: you could say an anchored redirect.

The problem doesn't really lie here, because the URL constructed with the identifier is fine for anyone with ODNB access. It lies with the ODNB index pages, which hide what is happening.

http://www.oxforddnb.com/public/hub/489.html does make it clear that there are two people. With some more work, they could do more.

At present, one can use http://oxfordindex.oup.com/. The search

http://oxfordindex.oup.com/search?q=Edward+Rudge

shows there are two "Edward Rudge" pages. It also gives the opening

"Rudge, Edward (1763-1846), botanist and antiquary, was born in Evesham on 27 June 1763, the son of Edward Rudge ..."

of one. Following the link one gets to

http://oxfordindex.oup.com/view/10.1093/ref:odnb/24250?rskey=VMOg7k&result=3

which shows the (unpadded) OBIN as 24250

So at present where there are two identifiers, it is possible to see which is for the main topic, at least.

Ok thanks for the explanation, that should work.
