Date of death

[edit]

{{Editprotected}} According to Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani, Cristoforo Colombo died in Valladolid in 19 May 1506, not 30 May 1506 as is now stated. Candalua (talk) 14:44, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Another date given by some sources is 20 May 1506 (Britannica). The date of 30 May seems completely wrong, it looks to me like the result of a conversion of 20 May (in the Julian calendar used in Europe at that time), to the corresponding date in the proleptic Gregorian calendar (which would have been 30 May, because in 1500 the Julian calendar was 10 days "late"). I suggest removing 30 May which is wrong and misleading (the Gregorian calendar was introduced only in 1582), and inserting both the dates of 19 and 20 May with their respective sources. Thanks to you, but now the dates appear as 19 and 20 May 1506 Gregorian. This is not correct, since the Gregorian calendar was introduced only in 1582. The calendar should be specified as "Julian", which was the calendar generally used in Europe in that time. Candalua (talk) 17:40, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

birthday

[edit]

at a guess from the nature of the range of values, 31 October 1451 is his baptismal date. We almost -never- know the birthdate of someone from this time. ELSchissel (talk) 00:39, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
