Formatter URL[edit]

@Trade:

Hey, thanks for the explanation. However I’m a bit confused − on Grand Theft Auto Collection (Q78669829), http://store.steampowered.com/sub/28987 does not resolve, does it?

I was basing my change on the examples given − http://store.steampowered.com/$1 does not work either for Portal Bundle (Q71192706) / 234 → http://store.steampowered.com/234 does not resolve either.

@Jean-Frédéric:Steam have two different kind of compilations: Bundles (bundle) and packages (sub). Bundles works on both http://store.steampowered.com/bundle/$1 and http://store.steampowered.com/$1/ but packages only works on http://store.steampowered.com/$1/ thus in order to make the identifier work for both i had to change the formatter URL.
I'm not sure what happened with Grand Theft Auto Collection (Q78669829), the link worked when i reverted your change. You can find mentions of the compilation on Google but there's no sign of it on the Steam store making me believe that it have been removed in the meantime. --Trade (talk) 21:14, 9 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the answer @Trade:
Regarding Bundles works on both, I don’t understand: for Portal Bundle (Q71192706) (id: 234), http://store.steampowered.com/234 does not resolve (http://store.steampowered.com/bundle/234 does.)
Thanks for the sub hint, I added an example.
I guess we have two options going forward:
  • Create two separate properties, one for the sub/$1 and one for bundles/$1
  • Have one for both, and enforce having [sub|bundles]/$1
I guess it depends if it’s the kind-of-the-same thing or not-really-the-same-thing, but I’m no Steam expert. What do you think? Jean-Fred (talk) 13:40, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Jean-Frédéric: I don’t understand My point was that bundles works with both URL formatters while packages only works when using the current URL formatter tho i turned out to be wrong meaning it doesn't matter either way.
I guess it depends if it’s the kind-of-the-same thing or not-really-the-same-thing, but I’m no Steam expert. What do you think? Many of the older packages are buggy and Steam have a nasty habit of removing them without explanation. Other than that they are pretty much the same. I suppose our best bet would be to find some kind of bundle/package ID hidden in the page source like we already do with Steam profile ID (P6945). --Trade (talk) 14:55, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
