PLWABN ID (P7293) URL unavailable[edit]

For at least a few weeks P7293 ids (URL) haven't been leading to the actual record but instead to a web page with a notice "The database (maybe temporarily) unavailable".

Identifiers and referenced based on the identifiers are broken. Kpjas (talk) 12:38, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There are 377,916 items with this defunct identifier https://w.wiki/6SxZ

Maybe somebody that knows how to contact the National Library of Poland can find out what happened to this database? Otherwise, maybe the identifier should link to the corresponding record in VIAF?? -Pteropotamus (talk) 13:39, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

On 18th April I wrote an email about the issue to The National Library of Poland, to the official email address kontakt@bn.org.pl
No reply yet. Kpjas (talk) 18:06, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Kpjas The number is in field 009 in KHW otherwise called authorites database. See: bn authorities:name=Jan%20Stanis%C5%82aw%20Skorupski, bn authorities: name=Piers%20Anthony. For documentation see: data bn docs - authorities. Links that open data by 009 field: bn authorities: marc=009%209810619479305606. Don't know what format was used by makwww. Nux (talk) 19:48, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A HTML version (webpage) is using 001 field. And seem to be here: https://dbn.bn.org.pl/descriptor-details/a0000001110784 Nux (talk) 19:52, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Nux @Pteropotamus So the workaround would be to extract the '0001' field from authorities DB and link to the webpage version in the National Libarary of Poland, I presume ? Job for a bot ? Unless they fix their web version used by makwww. Kpjas (talk) 21:23, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I wrote an email to an IT guy which did help me in another issue in the past. I think it would be best to wait a bit for response (until 8th maybe?). I can also ask a wiki resident which helped with Polona links recently. Nux (talk) 21:49, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Still waiting for more info, but I have a confirmation that the problem is know to BN staff. I think it might be a problem in data conversion because MARC fields 001 and 009 are flipped. Nux (talk) 18:53, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, so this will probably need to be renamed. They call this MMS ID now which stands for Metadata Management System ID and is kind of ALMA specific (ALMA is a library management system BN is using now). There will be a URL that will contain MMS ID, so we don't have to change values on our side (at least for now). They consider the other number a "NLP ID" which is in Polish: "unikalny identyfikator rekordów BN" or National Library Poland Identification (I guess). Hopefully the new URL route will not take too long to implement. Nux (talk) 15:47, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Nux Thanks for your investigation and the effort. So probably for now it is not advisable to mark PLWABN ID in a particular way as defunct or inactive for example ? Kpjas (talk) 04:59, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just to add one more aspect of this issue: for the time being PLWABN is still part of VIAF clusters, so it will be semi-automatically downloaded by tools such as MoreIdentifiers. Powerek38 (talk) 12:53, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Good news – the new path is live e.g. https://dbn.bn.org.pl/descriptor-details/9810696457305606.
I've fixed URL and added a note in property description that this now relates to MMS ID in the new system. Not sure what do with "Applicable stated in value" (and similar), because this no longer refers to MAK library system. Not sure if this is important though. Nux (talk) 10:58, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fine. It can be fixed quite easily.
Can PLWABN and MMS ID co-exist or should MMS ID supersede the former ? Kpjas (talk) 15:07, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The value is the same, so I don't think we need a new one. MMS ID is just a name that Alma software is using so something vendor specific, not anything universal / standard. Nux (talk) 16:04, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
