Training needed[edit]

Many articles on Marathi Wikipedia do not have wikidata lables. I want to learn how to create lables for these articles.--आर्या जोशी (talk) 07:07, 22 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Kindly explain in details some of the topics you want to learn, such as gentle introduction to Wikidata, specific tools, regards. --Titodutta (talk) 07:16, 22 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@आर्या जोशी:, thank you for your request. Learning about WE-Framework gadget will be suitable for your request, I guess. We can also discuss Tabernacle, which also serves the purpose. If you can schedule for online call as per your free time, I will arrange accordingly. Thanks. -- Bodhisattwa (CIS-A2K) (talk) 10:40, 22 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
This SPARQL query will give you a list of such articles in Marathi Wikipedia which don't have Marathi labels in Wikidata. -- Bodhisattwa (CIS-A2K) (talk) 10:54, 22 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
SELECT ?item ?itemLabel
WHERE
{
   FILTER(NOT EXISTS {
   ?item rdfs:label ?lang_label.
   FILTER(LANG(?lang_label) = "mr")
 })
  [] schema:about ?item; schema:isPartOf <https://mr.wikipedia.org/>
SERVICE wikibase:label { bd:serviceParam wikibase:language "[AUTO_LANGUAGE],en". }
}
LIMIT 100
Try it!

@Bodhisattwa:Thank You!--आर्या जोशी (talk) 04:12, 26 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Session Specifics[edit]

Hi @Ashwini2001, Lakshmi Narasimha Reddy Jonnala, Yakshitha:, thanks for request in Skill sharing. I am bit confused about the topic of discussion you mentioned. You all have mentioned "Basics of Wikidata tools". There are so many Wikidata tools with different functions, among them which one do you want to learn? Or does that mean, you want to learn "Basics of Wikidata editing and some basic Wikidata tools"? -- Bodhisattwa (CIS-A2K) (talk) 05:26, 8 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Kishorekumarrai, Babitha Shetty:, sorry for the late reply as due to the rapidly changing scenario in the form of increased severity of COVID-19 pandemic in India (Q84055514) and its effects in the form of lockdown and curfews, I am currently busy to keep my family in stable condition, just like others in the country and so, I couldn't had the time to conduct this skill sharing session. I hope you understand. Lets have the call some time during next week, if it is ok for both of you. I am extremely sorry for the inconvenience. -- Bodhisattwa (CIS-A2K) (talk) 15:19, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Some Doubts regarding WikiData[edit]

I am mentioning here some doubts which I encountered while exploring Wikidata. @Bodhisattwa (CIS-A2K): Can you please help? Thanks.

  1. Is it required to create Wikidata Item for "categories in commons" to make it more searchable? e.g. Birds of Maharashtra does not have wikidata Item but birds of Odisha has a wikidata item.
  2. Does lower administrative territory automatically takes care of higher administrative territory? e.g. if a place is in Pune district, does it take care of it is in Maharashtra or we need to mention again? For a search like Places of Historical Importance in Maharashtra – Does this include Places of Historical Importance in Pune district by default?
  3. How to decide? e.g. whether xyz place is instance of (P31) a Pilgrimage Site (Q15135589)/ OR its location (P279) is a Pilgrimage Site (Q15135589).? As I understand P31 is a very top level statement about what it is- like a human, a thing, a place, an animal like that. But I can also see a beach, a hill station( these are more specific about a place) being used as values for statement P31.
  4. How to maintain uniformity in Value assigned to a statement? Is there any efficient way of assigning a value to statement. e.g. if I want to add a value to statement for 50 items.

--Phadke09 (talk) 05:23, 19 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Phadke09:, Thanks for the questions. I will try to answer them one by one.
  1. For Commons category, you can use Commons category (P373) as a property to the item.
  2. Yes, lower administrative entity take care of higher administrative entity, provided the first one is connected with the second one with located in the administrative territorial entity (P131). So, in the item of Pune district, you have to link located in the administrative territorial entity (P131) with its higher administrative entity, which is very important. Then only, if you can search correctly via SPARQL, the places of Maharashtra will include the places of Pune district.
  3. P31 is the property which defines the item. If xyz is a pilgrimage site, then its P31 is a pilgrimage site. P31 can be very specific, for example beaches or hill stations or pilgrimage site.
  4. If I can understand this question correctly, you want a tool to add value to statements, other than manual editing. Is that correct? For that, there are some very powerful tools we have, for example - Tabernacle, Quickstatements, OpenRefine etc.

I hope, this answers some of your doubts. If there are still confusions, let me know. -- Bodhisattwa (CIS-A2K) (talk) 06:33, 19 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata Items for Proofread Books from WikiSource[edit]

Hello @Bodhisattwa:. Many books from Wikisource need wikidata items created. Please guide about the statements normally associated with a book. also share some sample item for reference if any. Thanks. --Phadke09 (talk) 10:48, 11 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Phadke09: Looks like Wikidata:WikiProject Books is what you are looking for. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 04:36, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
