Background

The first batch of UTL system libraries and archives described in Wikidata were limited to two exploratory Wikidata projects:

1. A UTL initiative within the Information Technology Systems department, led by Kelli Babcock with support from Alex Wong and Emily Sommers, in Fall 2019 to add an "archives at" property for fonds and collections from the University of Toronto Libraries Discover Archives repository. In advance of contributing items representing Discover Archives items in Wikidata, we identified a need to first create Wikidata items reflecting the various libraries and archives within Discover Archives. This would enable us to connect the "archives at" property to the correct archival repository the holding belonds to at UTL. Because of this, the first batch of libraries and archives created in Wikidata for the UTL system was limited to the libraries and archives in Discover Archives.
2. A collaboration between May Chan and the Bora Laskin Law Library to describe the Indigenous Perspectives Collection in Wikidata. For this project, a Wikidata item for the Bora Laskin Law Library was created.

This means that some libraries within the UTL system do not yet have a Wikidata item. A future project to fully reflect the UTL system in Wikidata and add remaining libraries can be pursued in the future.
