Introduction

"The Locals Only: San Diego Local Music / Southern California Underground Music (S.C.U.M) Collection was built by degrees through various donations of local music CD's following the creation of the Música Sin Fronteras collection that focused on new music from the border. The intent was to build a collection that reflected the community and diverse culture of this San Diego and larger Southern California area. It encompasses a wide selection of music styles such as punk, alternative, country, classical, ethnic, rock and others. The wide-ranging breadth of the collection best represents the culture of the area. The collection coincided with the work of Seth Mellios and the Rock n Roll Mural reclamation project and highlighted the role that SDSU and the Backdoor played in local music history."
