The maintains up to date population (P1082) for settlements in Bulgaria (Q219).
Code: github
Function Details:
The Bulgarian census agency's database ESGRAON (Q12279344) publishes data about the population for each settlement every 3 months. The bot parses and disambiguates this data and uploads it to the corresponding items on Wikidata.
Due to the particularities of the local census system, two data-points are recorded, corresponding to current and permanent residents for each settlement.
The most recent pair is set with a preferred rank.

Support This is very useful and timely data extracted by Semantic Web students of Nikola Tulechki at Sofia University. It extends earlier work on BG EKATTE place ID (P3990) and has important correations to RDF-ization of Bulgarian election results https://github.com/nikolatulechki/semanticElections. Please grant bot permissions! --Vladimir Alexiev (talk) 13:46, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- What about the database license?--Ymblanter (talk) 19:12, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- @Ymblanter: The source data are official statistics published by the Bulgarian government. They are public domain. Nikola Tulechki (talk) 07:41, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- @Nikola Tulechki: Ok, please now make a few test edits.--Ymblanter (talk) 11:05, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks, @Ymblanter:. We did a test run of the bot using a different account in July. See Sgerginov's contributions is that sufficient or should I run it again using the dedicated account? Cheers Nikola Tulechki (talk) 07:52, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- No, this is fine, thanks. Why have you deleted referenced data during the bot run?--Ymblanter (talk ) 07:55, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- @Ymblanter: The population data was, in our honest opinion, quite noisy. Most of it came from automatic imports from various Wikipedia articles (mostly russian wikipedia). Few were dated with point in time (P585). This is why we chose to delete all of it and replace it with the freshest available official Bulgarian reference data. Once the bot is running, this will be updated once every three months. We will also use it to do a one time import of historical population data (1 data point per year) going back to 1998. This will cover all the data we have deleted and store it in a consistently structured manner for all settlements in Bulgaria.
- Good, I will wait for a couple of days and approve the bot provided no objections have been raised.--Ymblanter (talk) 20:50, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
