It seems that publication date (P577) is preferred, possibly with qualifiers if there are multiple publications for the given item. − Pintoch (talk) 23:04, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

For example, the item Minami-ke (Q35191609), between the use of
start time (P580) / end time (P582)
and
publication date (P577) of (applies to part (P518)) 1st episode / last episode (Q43178228),
which one is better? --Ans (talk) 14:31, 21 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- start time (P580) is homonym (Q160843). Because, start time (P580) of what (of the beginning/start of inventing, developing, creating, implementing, realizing, appearing the first part)? --Fractaler (talk) 06:38, 22 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- homonym (Q160843)? Did you rather intend to mention hypernym (Q609507)? --Ans (talk) 12:00, 22 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- When a case start time (P580)/publication date (P577), then of course we have hypernym (Q609507)/hyponym (Q680042). But start time (P580) also can have a lot of other case (=homonymy (Q21701659)) --Fractaler (talk) 12:20, 22 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- And what about end time (P582) of the tv series? There's usually no real end time (P582) of the tv series, it is actually the start time (P580) of publication of the last episode, not the end time of publication nor end of publication. Or we can regards it as end time of the first publication? --Ans (talk) 21:23, 22 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- We have calendar date (Q205892). calendar date (Q205892) is "process point": 1) beginning (Q529711) -> 2) middle (Q28485138) -> 3) end (Q12769393). For example, for ontogeny (Q193603): 1) zygote (Q170145) (first process point: date of birth (Q2389905)) -> 2) human (Q5) ( middle process point: biography (Q36279)'s date without date of birth (Q2389905)+date of death (Q18748141)) -> 3) human corpse (Q42335118) (last process point: date of death (Q18748141)). So, the question is which process is being modeled. --Fractaler (talk) 08:23, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

- publication date (P577) seems better to me. If you had items for each episode you would put publication date (P577) on those individual items, that would be another option (so you could get the start and end times for the series by querying for the earliest and latest publication date of an episode). Have you looked at what has been done for other series? ArthurPSmith (talk) 19:39, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Fractaler, ArthurPSmith, Towanis: I've proposed a new property dedicated for this, "end time of first publication" or "publication date of last episode/chapter" at Wikidata:Property proposal/end time of first publication. If you agree, please support it. --Ans (talk) 05:27, 29 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
