Planned useThe Wikipedia entry "encyclopedia.com" states that this world-wide accessible and very useful online encyclopedia had been launched way back in 1998. Alas, the Wikidata entry is still lacking a corresponding property to enable its use as a WikiData Identifier comparable to, for instance, the "Encyclopædia Britannica Online ID". Once established as a property it will prove to be a useful identifier for a flurry of WikiData items. As to the next month, I have a number of Wikidata entries in mind that would profit from this new property.
Number of IDs in source300,000
Expected completenessalways incomplete (Q21873886)
Implied notabilityWikidata property for an identifier that suggests notability (Q62589316)

Motivation[edit]

By pure chance I noticed that the quite popular site 'encyclopedia.com', launched back in 1998, doesn't possess an corresponding WikiData property identifier to enable its use as a WikiData Identifier. Encyclopedia.com claims "free access to over 300,000 reference entries from sources you can cite. Plus, more than 50,000 topic summaries feature related pictures, videos, topic summaries, and newspaper and magazine articles from around the world. Encyclopedia.com takes great care in constantly updating [its] content with the latest from our partners." This should surely qualify this site for future use as a WikiData Identifier. Addendum: I do hope that I, as a WikiData newbie, have supplied most of the required information without missing out too much. - Franz van Duns (talk) 19:00, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for getting this through. I hadn't logged in for nigh two weeks and had almost but forgotten about this my initiative some months ago. Glad to see this proposal was readily accepted.
Appending facts to Wikidata is more a pastime employed when I notice that something is missing within Wikipedia (English and German) or Wiki Commons. Then I check on Wikidata to find out whether a solution of the necessary kind exists or may be appended.
Immediately put this new property to use for Wikidata item "dissipation trail (Q118612485)", but not quite sure whether the leading "/" within the "ID" leads to any problems. I'll see how I can check out on that later.
ADDENDUM (60 min. later; please excuse this re-positioning - it's shortly before midnight over here in Germany): The leading "/" is superfluous and must be removed! Franz van Duns (talk) 21:06, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
