There is already Japan Search name ID (P6698) for back-end name-related searches. This is used on eg Francis Xavier (Q163900) and from this search [5] you can click through to the front-end presentation as in the fourth example above. This is also used on Tokyo Fuji Art Museum (Q1233913), but you cannot so easily navigate through from this search [6] to the front-end presentation in the first example above. Would usage as in the sixth example above be ok (or would a separate property, along the lines of Google Knowledge Graph ID (P2671) be better, if we wanted to go down that route)?

Japan Search employs various identifier systems, one of which is the name ID (P6698). The primary identifier is the item ID, illustrated in Example 2. Gallery IDs (Examples 3, 4, 5, and 8) are designated for curated online exhibitions and may not align well with Wikidata items. On the other hand, the database ID (Example 7) pertains to a collection of items. It is advisable to concentrate on the item ID (thus renaming this to Japan Search item ID) to avoid confusion with these distinct identifiers.
- In terms of what I for one am intending to add to wikidata, at the least in the short- to medium-term, I'm actually more interested in the non-item identifiers; I could move this proposal as you suggest and add another, perhaps with a URL rather than external-id data type, but this single proposed formatter URL seems to be able to handle them; the "galleries" in particular give quite nice introductions, as in the examples above, and seem to align reasonably well with the wikidata items cited, although we may need to use identifier shared with (P4070) in a few other instances; thanks, Maculosae tegmine lyncis (talk) 12:00, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
- OK, some Japan Search galleries could closely match certain Wikidata topics, as illustrated in the examples above. Japan Search items seem to align well with Wikidata items in many cases as in Example 2, however, some caution would be needed when dealing with those that represent a work, such as a print (e.g., Q3565037) since they could have many matches.
- For institutes, as shown in Example 1, I've incorporated functionality to locate related items into the RDF UI. This might address the difficulty mentioned in the preceding comment (when following the link [6]). Additionally, P6698 has been included in Q105237617 (Cultural Heritage Online).
