Number of IDs in sourceThe overall count of ENI numbers is not known to me, but there are more than 6.100 vessels by ENI number at Wikimedia Commons

Motivation

[edit]

The ENI number is a unique, eight-digit identifier that is attached to a hull for its entire lifetime, independent of the vessel's current name or flag (in contrast to the name, which is not unique and might change over time), which makes it a good candidate for a property. Similar to IMO ship number (P458) but with the scope on inland ships in Europe, which in most cases do not have a IMO number. The ENI number must be displayed on the sides and stern of the vessel, and because of that the ENI number is much more helpful to identify a ship than MMSI (P587) or call sign (P2317) when you spot a barge in the wild. -- Reise Reise (talk) 20:19, 14 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
