Motivation[edit]

The Aberdeenshire HER database is the statutory in-house website and database run by the Aberdeenshire Council Archaeology Service on behalf of the council areas of Aberdeenshire (Q189912), Moray (Q211106), Angus (Q202177), and Aberdeen City (Q62274582) to document heritage locations in the corresponding area of north-eastern Scotland. The range of items included is more extensive than the legally-protected scheduled monuments and nationally-designated listed buildings; nevertheless the site is thoroughly cross-referenced to Historic Environment Scotland ID (P709) and Canmore ID (P718) identifiers when those cross-references exist.

Even when all three websites cover particular heritage locations, the Aberdeenshire site may contain unique content. It also has extensive and quite interestingly well-structured content, particularly in the area of monument content, key dates, monument condition, and environment. The site would be a useful additional link to provide for heritage locations in this part of Scotland, including via Commons infoboxes, and would be a useful further support for the Wiki Loves Monuments campaign in this part of the world.
