Discussion[edit]

@Allknowingroger: I appreciate the motivation here but I'm not sure that this was carried out as well as it could be. Many of the articles are about specific rovers like Perseverance (Q87749354) or Rosalind Franklin (Q3445540), and I've spotted a few false positives like [There are more dogs called Rover] (Q80044857) and Buccaneers and privateers: the story of the English sea rover, 1675–1725 (Q58340132). The mismatches obviously shouldn't be there but more importantly, the articles about specific rovers would be much better off having the main subject being a specific rover.

For example, the article The Mars 2020 Engineering Cameras and Microphone on the Perseverance Rover: A Next-Generation Imaging System for Mars Exploration (Q103836900) already has a main subject of Perseverance (Q87749354), adding or replacing this with rover (Q643962) doesn't add anything because Perseverance (Q87749354) is an instance of (P31) of Mars rover (Q389459), which in turn is an instance of rover (Q643962) (it even has the qualifier of (P642) Mars (Q111). Because subclass of (P279) filters down, if you do a query for all rovers, it will return all of the items that are about Perseverance.

I think the best course of action here would be to undo this edit group then add the main subject for each individual rover (while double checking no random articles make their way in).

@Allknowingroger: Thanks for your quick attention to this. Only 282 of the 389 edits were undone though. I haven't used much of the functionality of edit groups before so I may be wrong, but I think that the remaining 107 edits can be finished off by clicking "Undo entire group" again. Would you mind trying this so that no notifications are generated? Cheers. Aluxosm (talk) 10:31, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
