"Maggie Wall" (Q103854635)

[edit]

Please do not change the semantics of items. Amongst the many crimes against wikidata, this is one of the most egregious. Wikidata ceases to be a stable knowledge base is one day an item denotes a human, the next day denotes a memorial to that human. In the case of Maggie Wall (Q103854635), there was already an item for the memorial Memorial Cairn to Maggie Wall (Q124413739) so your edit was doubly bad. --Tagishsimon (talk) 08:06, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Would you also please stop using first line (P1922) and unabbreviated text (P7008) to add free text to items. This is not wht these propeties are for; this is not what wikidata is about. Wikipedia is a place for free text descriptions of things. Wikidata is for structured data about things. First line is for "first line (incipit) of a poem, first sentence of a novel, speech, etc.". Unabbreviated text is for "(qualifier) text in inscription with the abbreviations expanded in a fairly reliable way". Neither of them are for your explanations of witchcraft related sites. I will remove all of them now. --Tagishsimon (talk) 08:20, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Our project is creating a map of memorials and sites of interest relating to witchcraft in Scotland. On the map we were hoping to have descriptions for each item but were wary of adding them to the description box as not to interfere with other projects or where the item was not just relating to the witch trials. So as a placeholder until finding a better solution I was adding them as first line as it is one of the only statements where text can be added, but I under stand this is not the intended purpose of "first line" so apologies for this. Do you have any suggestions for better solutions? Delane13 (talk) 08:52, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For inscriptions, you can use inscription (P1684); there is also inscription image (P9906) and even height of letters (P12549). Don't sweat the mistake; we all make them, even Tagishsimon! Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:19, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for this error, thought this was an item created for our project but that is my mistake for not looking further. Thanks for fixing this, will not do this again. Delane13 (talk) 08:47, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just wanted to say thanks, and well done for all the editing work you've been doing on this topic :) Lirazelf (talk) 11:29, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
