Hannolans, I have an issue with this edit: According to this article Anne Frank Fund argues that Otto Frank was more than en editor (who's work do not generate copyrights) by a co-author of the Het achterhuis (Q14624856), who did not write any actual words, but whose blending of versions A and B elevates him to co-author and who's work generates copyright. That is why this claim is disputed.

Hi Jarekt, interesting, They don't claim that Otto Frank is co-author, but they give him copyright due to the 'compilation', so his work as an 'editor', not as an 'author', they write "The in-print version of the diary was compiled by Otto Frank shortly after the war from the two overlapping, but incomplete, versions of the diary left by Anne Frank. In all countries we surveyed on this matter, experts confirmed that Otto Frank earned his own copyright to his compilation which will last for at least a further 50 or, in many countries, 70 years from the time of his death in 1980.". So, all words are Anne Frank, but Otto Frank seems to have copyright due to the decisions which sentences were printed in the book. https://www.annefrank.ch/qa-en.html

I like your fix, as I think it captures the nuance. As for copyrights of the editors, I am not 100% sure, but that is what various articles suggest. You are either "just" the editor and have no copyrights or co-author and have copyrights, see here for example. I like the quote from this article: "Foundation officials “should think very carefully about the consequences,” said Agnès Tricoire, a lawyer in Paris who specializes in intellectual property rights in France, where critics have been the most vociferous and are organizing a challenge. “If you follow their arguments, it means that they have lied for years about the fact that it was only written by Anne Frank.”".
