Director / manager[edit]

Ad [1]

@Tacsipacsi: "director / manager" in an inaccurate and misleading description for an ambassador. Hence I moved link to current ambassador to ambassador of Estonia to Hungary (Q67080911) where the ambassador can be linked more accurately using officeholder (P1308). The position in turn is linked from here, and so it doesn't seem necessary to link current ambassador from here as well. 2001:7D0:81C5:A580:F9DD:A108:FD54:C769 18:20, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

director / manager (P1037) is quite inclusive, its description being person who manages any kind of group; after all, an embassy is also a kind of group. It’s also used on over 200 embassies’ items:
SELECT ?item ?itemLabel WHERE {
	?item wdt:P31/wdt:P279* wd:Q3917681; wdt:P1037 [].
	SERVICE wikibase:label { bd:serviceParam wikibase:language "[AUTO_LANGUAGE],en". }
}
Try it!
So it’s not only me who thinks that it’s appropriate for embassies. If you think it isn’t, please start a discussion on Property talk:P1037 proposing the restriction of the property to more specific kinds of groups. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 01:09, 30 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's hard to say based on usage count if users think that given property is appropriate for certain use. Generally users just want to link related items and use whatever property they can find. In any case it isn't an ideal property for such use as its label is inaccurate and it may suggest that embassy has director or manager in addition to ambassador. I don't think that explicit restriction is necessary. I'd just consider P1037 redundant if office item along with officeholder data is available and linked (this seems to be much cleaner way to model this data). 2001:7D0:81C5:A580:69E1:D154:4B40:B88 07:28, 30 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
