The scientific study of the portrait identified as belonging to Afonso de Albuquerque, combined with the investigation of archives and other historical documentation of the collection and this portrait, revealed that this iconic image that has always been associated with Afonso de Albuquerque is not authentic, but an adaptation made on the figure of Governor Lopo Soares de Albergaria who took part in a renovation intervention in the middle of the 19th century.[1].
