Property:Academic degree
[edit]Had been added (unreferenced) as "professor emeritus" - which is a position (תפקיד), rather than degree (תואר אקדמי). I changed this to "Ph.D." after reading on the subject's HE WP page that he studied for his "third degree" (literal translation from the Hebrew) at the Univ. of Michigan, Ann Arbor, which studies he completed in 1966. The most likely degree would be as I entered it; this requires confirmation. -- Deborahjay (talk) 11:32, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
- Deborahjay, The source is from he.wiki. First I added first פרופסור (Q121594) and then changed it to פרופסור אמריטוס (Q1240569) as it is subclass of פרופסור (Q121594) to be more accurate with the he.wiki. If either of פרופסור or פרופסור אמריטוס fits to the situation maybe we should creat new subclass of פרופסור (Q121594) which it be degree (תואר אקדמי). Does the title דוקטור לפילוסופיה (Q752297) is the exact degree? Geagea (talk) 12:25, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Geagea:, we've got a confusion of properties here. A degree is what's issued by an institution of higher learning authorized to do such. See w:Doctorate#Types. I educated-guessed that a sociologist would hold a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree rather than of medicine, jurisprudence, etc. The other description/property has to do with his occupation, particularly a position (job!) he holds or held. His occupation is "professor" (and likely also "sociologist", since his research and publications are as a scientist; "professor" is about teaching). I don't agree with a subclass Professor emeritus (בדימוס ...) - because it's an honorary indication in certain professions after a position-holder's retirement, so here it's an artifact of this data item being updated in 2017 rather than 2007. An academic's degree is the equivalent of a soldier's rank. See Benny Ganz: Occupation: officer, Rank: Lt. General, he attended TAU but no academic degree is indicated - and at present only in the Description (in English, not Hebrew!) do we see he is or was Chief of Staff. HOWEVER for Ehud Barak we see the insertion of content for the valuable property "Position held." (Is there a User:Nili Priel who specializes in updates on valuable properties...?). Please let me know how you and I can see eye-to-eye on these various properties and dangers of possible faux amis between our respective native (?) languages, because I'm starting to get pretty deep into all this ... -- Cheers, Deborahjay (talk) 13:15, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
