Men only?[edit]

@Xaris333:, you changed the English description of this item a while ago from "sports team that plays association football" to "men sports team that plays association football". I don't think this makes much sense, because a) the sitelinked articles in Wikipedia are about association football teams in general, not just men's teams b) women's association football team (Q28140340) is a subclass of this item: women's teams aren't a subclass of men's teams. I've read at [1] that FIFA doesn't generally permit mixed-sex teams, so perhaps an item for men's teams would be useful, but it should be a subclass of this item, just like the women's teams are. @Ghouston: We have association football club (Q476028). a) We can move the sitelinks there. Its about football clubs, not foorball teams. Is a problem to have the links in men football teams. I know... Any idea? b) association football team (Q15944511) and women's association football team (Q28140340) are subclass of association football club (Q476028). We need both items (men and women) for statements. Or we needed them). Xaris333 (talk) 16:15, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe this can help Wikidata:WikiProject Association football/Discussion about properties/Clubs and Wikidata:Project chat/Archive/2017/08#Super Cup. Xaris333 (talk) 16:24, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Xaris333: the whole clubs vs team problem is easily solved in theory, but very hard in practice. Teams can be part of clubs but they are different things. A team can play a match but a club is just an organization. Both types of items are presumably needed. A club like Arsenal has several teams, including the "Arsenal First Team" that everybody just calls "Arsenal" , but I think we don't even have an item for it. This is how I understand it, I'm by no means an expert on football though. Ghouston (talk) 08:33, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • So any statement that says a team is an instance or subclass of a club, is just wrong. Ghouston (talk) 08:34, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
