English label
[edit]@EncycloPetey, Vojtěch Dostál: I have little to no knowledge about algae so I'm in no position to determine the most appropriate English label, but I'm really sceptical if the new English label "stramenopiles" does capture the group of algae described in the Czech article or if it could be misleading. According to EncycloPetey the English term "brown algae" is solely used for the Phaeophyceae class of algae and should not be used for more general or vague notions of algae. If stramenopile could be misleading I think it would be better to leave the English label blank or just change the label back to "hnědé řasy".
Vojtěch Dostál, I pinged you as you have been the first to edit this item and you seem to know best if "stramenopiles" is appropriate or not. Sorry in advance if "stramenopiles" is appropriate and I'm making a fuss about nothing; I just stumbled on this item when changing instance of (P31)common name (Q502895) to instance of (P31)organisms known by a particular common name (Q55983715). - @Valentina.Anitnelav "Hnědé řady" (brown algae) is an ambiguous 19th-century term with several definitions, not a taxon, organisms known by a particular common name (Q55983715) is appropriate. heterokont (Q461622) is a taxon. - The previous English label was hnědé řasy. While this may translate literally into English as "brown algae", that is not an accurate translation because "brown algae" in English means the Phaeophyceae, which is a taxon included in the hnědé řasy, but forms only a small part of it. It seems to roughly correspond with the notion of photosynthetic chromista. But if it does not have a fixed definition in 19th-century Czech literature, then we probably won't be able to match an English translation to it. --EncycloPetey (talk) 20:55, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
