Other LoC authority and vocabulary properties[edit]

Specific specialised properties exist for the following vocabularies
- Code List for Cultural Heritage Organizations (P3234)
- Thesaurus for Graphic Materials ID (P5160)
- Library of Congress Medium of Performance Thesaurus ID (P8516)
- American Folklore Society Ethnographic Thesaurus ID (P8540)

- Yes, for example the first one P3234 is a bit of a duplication Back ache (talk) 10:29, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
Single value constraint is problematic on this property[edit]
There is no separate property for the LC-maintained MARC List for Countries available at https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/countries.html. There are 5 separate properties for different forms of ISO 3166 codes, but this vocabulary states about itself: "The MARC country codes are not the same as the ISO 3166 country codes, although the lists are entity-compatible so that a simple translation could relate codes for the same entity. The records for the codes contain references to the equivalent ISO 3166 codes."
The vocabularies accessible at https://id.loc.gov include MARC List for Countries and MARC List for Geographic Areas (https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/geographicAreas.html) and most countries and provinces/states in the US, Canada, and Australia are represented by different codes in both. Example: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q824
https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/countries/oru.html
https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/geographicAreas/n-us-or.html
There are probably other concepts that are represented by more than one vocabulary at an https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary URI, but the Countries/Geographic Areas example is the most obvious example of why lumping "LoC and MARC vocabularies ID" into one property is a shortcut we can't make if we want to enforce a single value constraint on it.
As some library bibliographic data records country codes and other library bibliographic data records geographic area codes, it is valuable for Wikidata in its role as an ID-linking hub to capture both.

Agree. There were other exceptions, eg "notated music", "spoken text". So I removed the constraint. Vladimir Alexiev (talk) 22:08, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
Work ID?[edit]
Is this property also applicable to a work id from id.loc.gov? E.g., North American Wild Flowers (works/9671638). Thank you. jshieh (talk) 14:19, 23 September 2021 (UTC)
Problematic for identifier properties[edit]
The LoC "identifiers" namespace corresponds to Wikidata's "external-id" properties. Eg "gettytgn", "gettyulan", "viaf".
But this prop applies to items not properties. So I've been using "Equivalent property" instead. Vladimir Alexiev (talk) 22:12, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
Examples:
- GNIS ID (P590) equivalent property (P1628): https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/identifiers/gnis
- MeSH concept ID (P6694) external superproperty (P2235): https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/identifiers/mesh
