Hi all. I'm DannyS712, and I am requesting Oversight access here on Wikidata.
Back at the start of October, the Oversight team lost Sjoerddebruin due to admin inactivity, and since then it hasn't had anyone join to replace them. I have made a number of Oversight requests, and think I would be able to help ease the workload by being able to address such issues myself, as well as oversight requests from other users.
I log in almost every day, and when I'm around I can be reached on IRC as well as via email, so I can respond to oversight requests made directly and made via the OTRS queue.
Regarding the requirements for acces
- I am an administrator here on Wikidata
- I am at least 18 years of age and the age of majority in my jurisdiction
- I am familiar with the privacy policy, have signed the m:Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information and am listed at m:Access to nonpublic personal data policy/Noticeboard
I'm happy to answer questions. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 03:14, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

- Support I have interacted with Danny in a numerous of cases, and I can trust his judgement. He's trusted as a local admin and global sysop, and I have no issues with trusting him with the OS rights. Please ask questions when unsure. [edit]- "Removal of potentially libelous information" - could you explain how you would interpret this criterion and determine if an edit should be oversighted based on this? --Rschen7754 19:02, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Wikidata:Oversight#Policy notes that Oversight is approved from the removal of potentially libelous information "either: on the advice of Wikimedia Foundation counsel or when the case is clear, and there is no editorial reason to keep the revision.", so if there is a request from the Wikimedia Foundation counsel, I will probably defer to their judgement and Oversight the relevant edits, or leave it for another Oversighter. If it is not a request from the WMF, then I would consider the "case is clear, and there is no editorial reason to keep the revision" part. Its hard to give a specific clear-line rule, so I'll give some examples: I've requested oversight multiple times for accusations of pedophilia being added to items, and that is something that would generally qualify. On the other hand, adding common insults ("FooBar is an idiot") would not qualify, because despite having no editorial reason to keep, it doesn't really rise to the level of libel. Since the only experience I have to draw on for specific edits is my own history of requesting oversight, I will defer to the other oversighters if it is not a clear-cut case, and I'll look through both past OTRS tickets as well as the suppression log to see what the accepted standard is for suppression here on Wikidata. I hope this answers your question. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 19:39, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
