How to purge https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscar_Bola%C3%B1o so it gets the new QID?

When querying Toolserver, the item linked to the above is still Q28648921 and not the item it was merged with.

I used to be able to purge this by calling https://es.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=purge&format=rawfm&forcelinkupdate&forcerecursivelinkupdate&titles=Oscar_Bola%C3%B1o

Simply using &action=purge (or the gadget that does the same) isn't sufficient. What's the new solution?

The problem occurs fairly regularly with page merges.

Hello @Jura1:,
We tried to reproduce the bug, but the one you mentioned was fixed already. I found some recent merged items with this filter and the items I tested seemed to work too. If you encounter the problem again, please let me know! Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 16:18, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
It's still on Wikidata:Database reports/Deaths at Wikipedia/2017 meaning https://quarry.wmflabs.org/query/10703 still shows "Q28648921". Others that have a date in the last column and haven't been edited during the day have the same issue: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satya_Pal_Wahi ( Q24266475 ). There are few on other years as well.

I was aware of this bug long time ago and it seems to be still a problem... Matěj Suchánek (talk) 18:04, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
The api purge used to fix them, but now requires "post". Is there a way to do that with Special:ApiSandbox ?

A few more:

--- Jura 06:04, 2 March 2017 (UTC)

To reproduce the bug, I suppose one would need to do a couple of mergers (100?) and then query toolserver for the items associated with the pages linked at Wikipedia, similar to https://quarry.wmflabs.org/query/10703

External wiki sites in articles

Do you thing it would be a good idea to treat external wiki sites like IMSPL or sites of Wikia – that also have encyclopedic organisation of content as a "semi-internal" wiki projects? Let's say, instead IMSPL is an External identifier it would provide linking below Wikimedian links. So: Wikipedia, Wikisource ... Other sites and External wiki sites. For Johann Sebastian Bach there would stay:

External wiki sites (1 entry)      edit
 Imspl.org  Category:Bach, Johann Sebastian

Hello,
I think this question is more related to the content than development, and you should better ask the community on the Project Chat :) Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 09:08, 1 March 2017 (UTC)

Accidental vandal

This edit looks like the IP unintentionally arrived and edited the Property instead of the item. I make this assumption, since I myself a little to often accidently find myself in the Property instead of the Item, when I add a statement. I do not know how many times I have found myself accidently in area (P2046) for example. -- Innocent bystander (talk) 14:18, 3 February 2017 (UTC)

This is an absolutely common type of mistake, see the history of frequently used properties like birth date, etc. What also is common is to mistakenly edit another item instead of a statement, e.g. when a football player changes the team, then the name of the old team is changed to match the new team. So far, nothing new here. If you are watching the unpatrolled RC, then you'll see these kinds of edits multiple times every day. If the devs can think of a way to prevent such mistakes, that'd be great, of course. --YMS (talk) 18:35, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
That was the intension of reporting it here. Are the developers interested in helping us with this? -- Innocent bystander (talk) 16:30, 7 February 2017 (UTC)
Definitely. I however don't currently have a good idea how to fix it. Does anyone have suggestions? --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 18:02, 7 February 2017 (UTC)
Well, a start would be to not enable following any links until the edit is saved. -- Innocent bystander (talk) 19:48, 7 February 2017 (UTC)
@Lydia Pintscher (WMDE): Are we not able to write an abuse filter to stop, or at least challenge, IP editors from editing properties? In a standard wiki we can challenge any edit in article_namespace based on user_editcount or user_age (which is zero for IP accounts). These have been effective means to stop much vandalism and spam globally. I cannot comment definitively as I am aware that there were some differences to how your abusefilter works here.  — billinghurst sDrewth 01:26, 12 February 2017 (UTC)
That should be possible, yes. If not let me know and I can look into it more. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 14:57, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
That will need someone to do it, you don't have an independent abusefilter allocatable right, and post-stewardism, I don't have those rights.  — billinghurst sDrewth 05:51, 14 February 2017 (UTC)
There has been opposition to preventing IPs from editing properties in the recent past. We rely on IP editors to add labels and descriptions for properties, especially in minority languages. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:43, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
@Pigsonthewing: There has also been conversation talking about the problems. Any filter should be written to identify and give commentary on the situation prior to implementing. Write a filter that tags, or counts, and does nothing else, then you have the basis for a more informed conversation. Depending on components a good filter could focus on problematic areas, and leave non-problematic areas, and I would think that language would be one of those components upon which a filter could be designed.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:04, 2 March 2017 (UTC)

This hasn't been actioned locally. If you wish it to be done, I can add it, though I would want a tick of consent prior to acting. Happy to do so, happy to monitor and report prior to having a filter action anything.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:39, 1 March 2017 (UTC)

Meaning that I can write the filter and provide it in an exported mode for an admin to import.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:42, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
@Ymblanter, Vogone: At least I would support a temporary sysopship for Billinghurst to do this! -- Innocent bystander (talk) 13:00, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
I would not mind giving Billinghurst a temporary adminship only to write the filter, however, it is not on the policies, and a cleaner way would be to give him a developer right (which only WM-DE can do).--Ymblanter (talk) 13:20, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
If you want to create a new filter, please add a request to Wikidata talk:Abuse filter. If it's actionable, I can write it for you. Matěj Suchánek (talk) 14:38, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
@Matěj Suchánek: This discussion was here for weeks with a conversation and suggestion, please just grab it from here rather than push a bureaucracy that someone now has to write it on a different page to get an action.  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:58, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
So is this a discussion, or a request? Matěj Suchánek (talk) 12:32, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
Do you know what? Forget I spoke. You manage how you want to.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:42, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

Making property pages a different colour to item pages wouldn't hurt. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:41, 1 March 2017 (UTC)

Actually, a good idea.--Ymblanter (talk) 13:47, 1 March 2017 (UTC)

Access to "Wikis subscribed to this entity"

There is some API to access to "Wikis subscribed to this entity" that we can see in "Page information"? or alternatively some magic word which it indicates that the item is used, simple true/false value can be useful. --ValterVB (talk) 08:42, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

The magic word is not there (it can be if there is the demand) but there is an API version of "Wikis subscribed to this entity". Here's the documentation and an example. HTH Amir (talk) 12:38, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

Exclude Wikimedia page outside the main knowledge tree (Q17379835) from auto-competition by default?

I almost never set items from Wikimedia page outside the main knowledge tree (Q17379835) by hand or use a search in order to see them. Exceptions are:

Usage of Wikimedia page outside the main knowledge tree (Q17379835) outside mentioned properties is seemingly nonexistent.

Embed query results in Wikipedia/Wikidata pages

After a lot of searching, I am unable to conclude whether it is possible to embed query.wikidata results on Wikimedia (especially Wikipedia/Wikibooks/Wikidata (non-item/non-property) pages. It is interesting to have such a feature (even a limited form like embedding graphs, maps from the query results). Even though I can right click on the resulting image so obtained from query result view and manually upload to Wikimedia commons, it may not reflect the latest version as per Wikidata queried on a later date. Jsamwrites (talk) 15:51, 21 March 2017 (UTC)

It is currently not possible but will be in the future. We just didn't get to it yet. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 16:43, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
Hello @Jsamwrites:,
What you can do for now is use the option "graph builder" in the Query Service, and embed it using the mw:Extension:Graph. You can see a demo video here. Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 10:26, 22 March 2017 (UTC)
Thanks Lea Lacroix (WMDE) for the above link. I have been able to embed the search results graph using export feature of Graph Builder. Jsamwrites (talk) 17:26, 24 March 2017 (UTC)

Attempts to input descriptions in Greek language fail

Hi we have a report from several users that we cannot, in some cases, input a description in Greek language. Please help.

Examples: I tried in Louis of France (Q3263449), Louis of Evreux (Q352940). Another user mentions Category:Geography of West Asia by country (Q28459566).

Queries

Hello.

  1. What does "MediaWiki:Abusefilter-edit-throttled" mean?(which filter 59 does not work because of it)
  2. Is "Content pages" includes Redirect created?

Thank you --ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2 (talk) 13:02, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

@ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2: The first message means that an abuse filter matched to many edits (that's relative to the number of all edits), thus it has been disabled as it might match to many edits (by mistake). I don't quite get the second question… if you're asking whether Item pages will also be matched by that filter then yes, they are. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 10:20, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
