Things that can be done

Things that can be done, based on these statistics, short of creating lots of new items.

The offered roadmap eg at c:Commons:Wikidata/Commons-Wikidata_sitelinks#What_needs_to_be_done_next suggests that we will need to create massive numbers of new items, one for every Commons category that doesn't have one.

Any such move (for all categories? For all categories that are the target of a Commons category (P373) ?) probably needs sign-off by the community first.

But there are some smaller tidying-up things that can be done in the meantime, based on the items that already exist.

category items, and category-article item pairs

• Create category's main topic (P301) and topic's main category (P910) pairs based on shared Commons category (P373) targets
  • 807,776 697,000 non-cat items have Commons category (P373), but 120,641 only 54,798 have topic's main category (P910)
  • 323,852 262,041 category items have Commons category (P373) or commonscat, but 166,764 only 86,177 have category's main topic (P301)
• Add Commons category (P373) to category items, that currently have links to Commons categories.
  • 64,688 11,651 items ?
• More identification of category's main topic (P301) / topic's main category (P910) pairs, based on similar labels ?
• Add Commons category (P373) to any article items, that have linked categories with Commons category (P373)

gallery links

• Add Commons gallery (P935) to articles based on sitelinks to Commons mainspace
  • ~ 76949 galleries should be identifiable
• Investigate remaining pages in Commons mainspace
  • ~ 27833 pages
• Identify Commons categories that should be linked to galleries
