- What happened during the event
The Wikidata workshop was accepted as a workshop session in the 5th Frontiers and Innovations in Teaching (FIT) Conference. It is a local Education Technology (EdTech) conference organized by Xavier School (Q3707276) with the theme “EDUSCAPE” from April 25 to 27, 2018 at Xavier School, Nuvali, Santa Rosa, Laguna.
The workshop session was entitled Using Wikidata for Education. This was the first formal Wikidata workshop in the Philippines organized by the local Wikimedia community in the Philippines. Around 15 educators, mostly local teacher and one foreign delegate, attended the workshop session. We started by introducing ourselves in terms of our Wiki contributions and how long have we've been contributing to Wikimedia projects. Afterwards, we also introduced Wikimedia and its wiki projects, with emphasis on Wikidata. Participants were also asked to create their Wikimedia accounts so that they could create entries in Wikidata later on.
Participants were introduced to the term box in Wikidata, as well as creating a new item and editing items on Wikidata. All of them contributed by creating new items, or improving existing items, for National Scientist of the Philippines (Q6978290) and National Artist of the Philippines (Q2359033). To end the workshop, they were given examples of things built on Wikidata such as Crotos, Histropedia, and our very own Historical Markers App and Heritage Sites App.
Photos of the workshop were shared on Facebook in the Philippine Wikimedia community group, the Wikimedia Asia-Oceania community group and even in the Wikimedia Languages of Russia Community.
