Aim and Scope
[edit]To provide Wikidata items for University of Maryland, Baltimore related persons who appear in the UMB Digital Archive Local Authorities list. Those that have a record in LC Name Authority File have been marked on that list and will be the first to be ingested into Wikidata.
Background
[edit]Librarians who curate submissions to the UMB Digital Archive (DA) that collects works from and about persons with historical importance for the University of Maryland, Baltimore, as well as current works by UMB authors/researchers, have been keeping an Excel sheet with normalized names of those persons. The purpose of the project is to research information on these persons and to make the data we collect on them more accessible to the broader public while identifying them as authors or subjects in the DA.
Timeline
[edit]This is an ongoing project.
Contributors
[edit]The lead persons participating in the project are librarians Megan Del Baglivo and María Pinkas from the Metadata Management Department of the Resource Development and Access Division of the Health Sciences and Human Services Library at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Hanna Takemoto, a former intern at the library and an MLIS graduate from the University of Maryland College of Information Studies, was key in the initiation and realization of this project.
