Meeting Notes[edit]

  • Wikidata Working Hour Session creating items for authors of papers about COVID 19 or your own project
  • Brainstorming session on future Wikidata Working Hours
    • Survey on scheduling Wikidata Working Hours
    • Very easy to follow along, helpful instruction & demonstrations. I found the gadgets/user script topics very helpful.
    • Like having a project to work on together -- focuses edits and helps feel like contributing to something useful.
    • Good to be working with more experienced editors, but for beginners, one hour is not enough
    • Liked the idea of using a working hour to contribute to projects from various institutions/stakeholders. MSU recently held a wikidata editathon https://graphicpossibilities.hcommons.org/  that many of us joined. Maybe Black Lunch Table might have some projects we could contribute to?
    • Documentation on event pages: documentation on the Working Hour wikidata pages has been very useful too. It's easy to get overwhelmed by the amount of help pages/documentation. So I appreciate that each Working Hour wikidata page includes a short list of links to relevant policy or tools
    • Topics:
    • Lexemes
    • Getting started 60-90 minute open house type session at the beginning of new year
    • Property proposals
    • Using Mix ‘n Match
    • Instances vs. Subclasses continues to baffle some of the time
    • Name changes and different ways to deal with them
    • Native label and questions about it. See items Q100701110 (is it ok to have both label in Arabic and English or should it just be Arabic?) and Q100450294 and Q100450281 (see warning on Q100450281 that Li-Cheng should have a statement native label; if we can’t find it in Chinese is leaving it off acceptable?)
    • How to describe a book in WIkidata and use P840 narrative location
      • See test working with book Q100528488 we are trying to exchange info like this with others see demo contact me if you have ideas salgo60
    • Semi-automated methods for adding small batches of data
      • OpenRefine
      • QuickStatements
      • SourceMD
        • using the DOI to automatically put an article into Wikidata via sourcemd
