Meeting Notes[edit]
- Wikicite
- Sloan foundation’s 3-year grant to focus on open citations in service of free knowledge
- In past 3 years: international conferences
- Nature of program changed in 2019 from “one big conference to rule them all” to “grants program for many equivalent events in local context”
- Local context: specific languages, cultures, publishers, bibliographic records
- Nature of program changed in 2019 from “one big conference to rule them all” to “grants program for many equivalent events in local context”
- Scholia: One of the best known outputs of Wikicite (not the equivalent, but a successful and visible component). Pulls from Wikidata to display corpuses of data in a user-friendly manner.
- For this year, the WikiCite steering committee is providing funding to encourage development of training materials (tutorials, etc) and also the development of e-scholarships, which are like “virtual travel scholarships” that would allow people funding to devote time as they would to attend a conference in times when they could travel. This would allow people to stay home but together undertake a project in the spirit of WikiCite. Experimental!
