Presentation material[edit]
Notes[edit]
Wikidata Gadgets[edit]
- Gadgets can be very helpful, but aren’t very well documented, so Hilary will walk through a list to uncover some of the gems.
- Enabled/disabled through the Gadgets section of your Wikidata account Preferences page
Enabled by default[edit]
- PopupsFix - doesn’t seem to make a difference
- Search - drop down arrow to the right of search box enables searching site links (Wikipedia page titles) based on whatever language you are using in Wikidata
- Protection indicators - adds a padlock to pages that have been protected, indicating the type of protection for that page
- AuthorityControl - mainly works behind the scenes
Optional[edit]
- Merge - helps you merge items that you’ve identified as duplicates
- labelLister - adds a tab between Read and Edit that shows and edits labels, descriptions, and aliases from other languages; easy editing interface
- RequestDeletion - adds a “Request deletion” link to the More tab near Read and Edit
- Descriptions - shows the descriptions of items and properties when you hover over them
- KeyShortcuts - lets you press a key to jump to a specific editing activity; for example:
- “l” to edit the label
- “d” to edit the description
- “f” to jump to the start of the statements
- “i” to jump to sitelinks
- “a” to start adding a new statement
- Transliteration - appends approximate transliteration to each site link
- Reasonator - adds a link to the left column “Tools” to display the item in Reasonator (a more human-friendly display based on the item type, grouping properties, etc; for example Laurentian University)
- DuplicateReferences - makes it easy to add the same reference to multiple statements
- EasyQuery - adds an ellipsis (…) icon to statements to help you find other items with the same statement
- currentDate - automatically populates the current date when you add a “retrieved” property
- Recoin - estimates the relative completeness of the information about the item (compared to similar items); shows you which properties are potentially missing
- Relateditems - displays inverse relationships (items that link to the item you’re looking at)
